Pet relocation from the Philippines to Qatar

Moving a dog or cat from the Philippines to Qatar: the rabies titer test and the three-month wait that set the date, the import permit that has to be approved before the flight is booked, and the Qatar ID the permit is issued against.

The short answer

Moving a dog or cat from the Philippines to Qatar is decided by two fixed windows. The rabies titer test (RNATT/FAVN) needs a blood sample drawn at least 30 days after the rabies vaccination, and three calendar months must then pass between the sample and the flight — a minimum nobody can shorten. Both dogs and cats need the test unless the pet is a returning resident, and the import permit is issued against a valid Qatar ID, so the move has to be made by a resident. A healthy pet with a current vaccination record should expect about four months from start to travel.

What your pet needs

Requirements for Qatar

The steps below are the ones that decide your departure date. Everything else follows from them.

Microchip

Implanted and recorded, with the chip number on every document that follows.

Rabies vaccination

Current and recorded in the vaccination book, and given before the titer sample is drawn.

Species core vaccine

DHLPPI for dogs, FCRVP for cats, with the dates recorded.

Rabies titer test (RNATT/FAVN)

Both dogs and cats need it unless the pet is a returning resident. The sample is drawn at least 30 days after the rabies vaccination, and three calendar months must pass between the sample and the flight.

Import permit

Issued by Qatar against a valid Qatar ID, and approved before the flight is booked.

Veterinary health certificate

Issued by the Bureau of Animal Industry within 10 days of departure, which is Philippine export policy, with the destination endorsement on it.

Minimum age

Dogs and cats have to be at least 7 months old to enter Qatar.

How the work is sequenced

Step by step

  1. 1

    Microchip and rabies vaccination

The microchip is fitted and the rabies vaccination is given, with the species core vaccine — DHLPPI for dogs, FCRVP for cats — recorded in the vaccination book. This is day one: the titer test and the three-month wait are dated from it.

  2. 2

    Rabies titer test

The blood sample for the RNATT/FAVN test is drawn at least 30 days after the rabies vaccination. Both dogs and cats need it unless the pet is a returning resident.

  3. 3

    Three-month waiting period

Three calendar months have to pass between the sample and the flight, counted to the flight date rather than the departure from the origin. It is a legal minimum and cannot be shortened by us, the clinic or the airline.

  4. 4

    Import permit

We file for the import permit once the titer result is in hand, and it has to be approved before the flight is booked. Qatar issues the permit against a valid Qatar ID.

  5. 5

    Flight and arrival

The pet flies as cabin baggage, checked baggage or manifested cargo with the BAI export permit and the endorsed health certificate. We take the pet through airline check-in; the receiver collects it at Doha.

Answers

Qatar questions we get asked

If your question is not here, message us — the answer depends on your pet, not on a template.

Is a rabies titer test needed for Qatar?

Yes, for both dogs and cats, unless the pet is a returning resident. The sample is drawn at least 30 days after the rabies vaccination, and three calendar months have to pass between the sample and the flight — so the test, not the flight, is what decides your date.

Can I import a pet to Qatar without a Qatar ID?

No. Qatar issues the import permit against a valid Qatar ID, so the move has to be made by a resident or through one. Tell us early if the ID is in someone else's name, because the permit is applied for in that person's name.

How long does a move to Qatar take?

About four months from a pet with nothing in place: 30 days from the rabies vaccination to the titer sample, then three months of waiting before the flight. A pet that already has a current vaccination and a passing titer can move sooner.
