Pet relocation from the Philippines to United Kingdom

The route that punishes rushed planning: a rabies titer test starts a waiting period that no airline, clinic or agent can shorten.

The short answer

The Philippines is not a listed country for UK pet travel, so a dog or cat must be microchipped, vaccinated against rabies, blood-tested for rabies antibodies (titer test), and then wait three months from the date the blood sample was taken before entering the United Kingdom. Dogs also need tapeworm treatment between 24 and 120 hours before arrival. Plan on four months from a standing start: the three-month wait after the blood sample is a legal minimum, not a processing delay, and how far your pet already is through the sequence decides whether it is four months or less.

What your pet needs

Requirements for United Kingdom

The steps below are the ones that decide your departure date. Everything else follows from them.

Microchip first

The ISO-compatible microchip must be implanted before the rabies vaccination, because the vaccination record has to match the chip number. Implanting it afterwards invalidates the sequence.

Rabies vaccination and titer test

After vaccination, a blood sample is drawn, usually at least 30 days later, and tested at an approved laboratory. The result must reach 0.5 IU/ml or higher. We arrange the sampling and the laboratory submission.

Three-month waiting period

From the sampling date, three calendar months must pass before the pet arrives in the United Kingdom. This is the constraint that decides your departure date — plan backwards from it.

Tapeworm treatment for dogs

Dogs receive an approved tapeworm treatment 24 to 120 hours before arrival, recorded on the certificate by the veterinarian.

GB pet health certificate

The United Kingdom requires its own health certificate for pets arriving from non-listed countries. It is issued close to travel because of its validity window.

How the work is sequenced

Step by step

  1. 1

    Microchip and rabies vaccination

The microchip is implanted before the rabies vaccination. The primary rabies vaccination has to be a one-year vaccine: a three-year certificate is not recognised unless it was administered in the United Kingdom with the documentation to match. Boosters are accepted. This is day one: the titer test and the three-month wait are dated from it.

  2. 2

    Rabies titer test

The blood sample is drawn at least 30 days after the rabies vaccination and tested at an approved laboratory. Both dogs and cats need it.

  3. 3

    Three-month waiting period

Three calendar months have to pass between the sample and the arrival, counted to arrival rather than departure. It is a legal minimum and cannot be shortened by us, the clinic or the airline.

  4. 4

    Flight and arrival

The pet flies with the GB pet health certificate issued in the ten-day window before arrival, and dogs also carry the tapeworm treatment recorded by a veterinarian 24 to 120 hours before arrival.

Answers

United Kingdom questions we get asked

If your question is not here, message us — the answer depends on your pet, not on a template.

How long before I can send my pet to the UK from the Philippines?

About four months from a standing start: the sample is drawn at least 30 days after the rabies vaccination, and three calendar months then have to pass before the pet travels. No airline, clinic or agent can shorten either window. Two more conditions sit alongside it — the owner has to travel with the pet, or an authorized person does, at the same time or within five days, and the pet has to enter on an approved route with an authorized carrier.

What happens if the titer test result is below 0.5 IU/ml?

The pet is revaccinated and re-tested, and the three-month waiting period restarts from the new sample date. This is why we test as early as the vaccination schedule allows.

Can my pet fly to the UK in the cabin?

Ordinary pets entering Great Britain by air travel as manifested cargo into an approved airport and carrier, then clear customs — cabin travel is not available under the ordinary pet rules, apart from a private charter or a guide or assistance dog. We confirm the approved route and carrier for your pet before anything is booked, and the pet must arrive within five days of you or an authorized person travelling. Some airlines offer cabin or accompanied options on particular routes, and we confirm what is available for your pet's size and breed before booking.

Do I need an additional travel document?

An EU travel document is not issued for pets travelling from the Philippines. Your pet travels on the GB pet health certificate issued close to departure.
